I always thought finishing a set would be my favorite collecting accomplishment, especially the 1991 ProLine set. I was really psyched when I finished it last month, but I think I like the card below even more:
I know many of you have seen this card before and are probably sick of seeing it. I got the Koufax 20+ years by mail. I got Perry at a show last year at Hofstra. I got Gibson a few months at the MAB show in NJ. On Saturday I finished it with Marichal at the Hofstra Show.
I was so paranoid about making sure that the card got finished off nicely, I brought my own fine point blue sharpie marker. Juan asked me where I'd like for him to sign it and certainly complied with my request.
I have always felt this was a special card as:
- I am obsessed with multi player cards.
- All 4 players pictured are Hall of Famers.
- It has 3 of the best pitchers of the 1960's and a 300 game winner.
- I like the design of the 1967 Topps leaders cards.
- It was one the first older cards I acquired in my collection.
Normally I would write a whole blog post describing the show, but I do not have time this week. I can say that the crowd of buyers looked a little more sparse than other White Plains and Hofstra shows I'd been to, but I was happy with what I came away with.
I can say that I bought some fantastic autographed items from Main Line Autographs (making their first appearance at the Hofstra show). I also got a handful of unsigned cards from various dealers that I'll be sending out soon enough - including a good amount of 1970's hockey stars.
I have made a pretty serious dent in my 1978 Topps basketball set, adding 24 more signed cards (the set only has 132 cards) during the past 2 shows.
